Human Anatomy Museum Reopening project

The renovation project for the Professor Alfonso Bovero Museum of Human Anatomy (MAH), on University of Sao Paulo, is the result of an undergraduate design course at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (FAU-USP) - Visual Design VII - Environment/Building - completed in 2014, in which me and my group had to propose a new signage project for a space of our choice. In this context, we contacted with the professionals involved in the MAH. This contacts began through research, field visits, and interviews; this was facilitated through the Communication Analyst of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the USP (ICB), Malu Motta, who articulated the process from beginning to end.

At the end of the course, we presented not only the signage but also the revitalization project for the entire space to the museum curator and director, Prof. Dr. Edson Liberti, who embraced the idea (this is how the new MAH was born).

From that moment on, he had several months of work together with Malu and the Professor, who brought new demands, desires, and ambitions for the Museum, which was essential for the project to become increasingly complete.

Our work went beyond and was shaped to new furniture proposal for the collection room, which describes the circulation of the room (determined by the linearity imposed by the anatomy content). The shelves were added to the display panels, tablets with an application designed specifically to manage the data displayed in the Museum, the visual identity and a new signage proposal for the Museum, a flowchart of the journey of the user typology and its respective service mapping; and the concept of occupation and furniture for the teaching room: an innovative extension proposal aimed at elementary and high schools, allowing them to adapt their teaching programs and pedagogical dynamics in the Museum itself.

Over three years, our group had the full collaboration of interdisciplinary professionals from the ICB, the building to which the Museum belongs, for support and implementation. The project was implemented, and the MAH was sucssefully inaugurated in May 2017.
